Only software that is available free of charge and fully functional is listed. This might include free versions of commercial software as long as the results are not crippled by water marks or other limitations, and the software does not expire after the trial period. The functionality of the free version might differ from the full commercial version but must still be supported and under development.
hdrgen is the HDR composition engine behind Photosphere and WebHDR. Pre-compiled binaries are available for a number of platforms. Like it's bigger brother Photosphere, the images are auto-aligned to compensate for camera movement.

PFSTools is a set of command line (and one GUI) programs for reading, writing, manipulating and viewing high-dynamic range (HDR) images and video frames. All programs in the package exchange data using a simple generic file format (pfs) for HDR data. The concept of the pfstools is similar to netpbm package for low-dynamic range images. pfstools are supplemented by pfscalibration and pfstmo for creating HDR images, and for tone-mapping operations, resp.

AHDRIA (Automatic High Dynamic Range Image Acquisition) is a Windows software that allows you to control a Canon digital camera from a computer via USB to produce a series of exposure-bracketed images. Once those pictures are generated, the Windows command-line software AHDRIC (Automatic High Dynamic Range Image Creation) will put them together and create a RADIANCE HDR image.
